Wickliffe Lycurgus Cobb IV

TAPPAHANNOCK, Virginia – Wickliffe RosserLycurgus Cobb IV was born June 3, 1939 in Southhampton County, Virginia and passed away on Feb. 3, 2025 at the age of 85.

Rosser, graduated from Southhampton High School in 1956. He went on to study at Virginia Tech and graduated in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics. Rosser joined the Air Force shortly after graduation. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force he spent the majority of his career with the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Rosser was the Regional Market Development Manager for the Northeast Region and was also the Program Director for the Virginia Corn, Soybean & Small Grains Board. He retired in 1995. His hobbies included fishing, feeding the neighborhood birds and filling his yard with azaleas.

Rosser was preceded in death by his father, Wickliffe Rosser Lycurgus Cobb III and mother, Sarah Blount Cooke Cobb.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Bette Jo Childers Cobb; daughter, Jo Lynne Cobb Goebel (Willie); granddaughter, Haley Lynne Goebel of Richmond, Virginia.

A memorial service will be held on March 18 at 2 p.m. at St John’s Episcopal Church in Tappahannock, Virginia.
