An announcement shared on social media Monday morning, Feb. 17, stated that citizens and parents of Franklin plan to gather at 5:30 p.m. on Monday in front of Franklin High School in peaceful protest of Franklin City Public Schools’ recent decision to move Travis Felts from his longtime role as FHS principal to a position working out of Central Office.
The announcement stated, “This gentleman, Travis Felts, was demoted to a trumped up position that was never posted and removed from his position as principal. Why protest??? We want Travis Felts placed back in his rightful position as principal of FHS!!!”
The planned protest will immediately precede a town hall meeting to be hosted by FCPS Superintendent Dr. Carlton Carter at FHS from 6-7:30 p.m.
FCPS announced the meeting Friday afternoon, Feb. 14, in the wake of a student-led protest that morning and a Franklin City Council meeting on Monday, Feb. 10, in which members of the public and council members expressed strong concerns and opposition to the decision to move Felts.
Felts had been principal at FHS since 2012, and it was announced in a Feb. 10 FCPS news release that he had been appointed as the school division’s new director of extracurricular activities, Jobs for Virginia Graduates and virtual programs.
