SEDLEY – Audrey Raiford Hancock, 86, claimed the Promise of the Resurrection Feb. 12, 2025. She was born in Southampton County to the late Walter H. Raiford Sr. and Kathleen Bradshaw Raiford and is also predeceased by her husband, Howard Smith “Smitty” Hancock Jr. and her brother, Walter H. “Junior” Raiford Jr.
Audrey was in the first graduating class of Southampton High School and was a member of Grace Memorial United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher for over 50 years.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Chris Hancock (Gina) of Sedley; a sister, Barbara Ann Raiford Brown of Manteo, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Nicole H. Russell (Andy) and Kelly H. Magruder (Austin); four great-grandchildren, Connor, Lane, Emma and Abby and a host of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15 in Grace Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Debbie Baugham officiating. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church and suggests that memorial donations be made to Grace Memorial United Methodist Church.
