CARRSVILLE – On Jan. 30, 2025, David Arthur Jones, 68, peacefully went home to be with the Lord. David was born in Suffolk, Virginia to the late Clyde W. Jones Jr and Marita Hudgins Jones. He was also predeceased by his beloved in-laws Gilbert and Phyllis Story.

David A. Jones

He was employed by International Paper and retired after many years of service as a mill rite. His favorite part of retirement was spending time on the Chowan River where he would swim out to the drop-off and fish off the pier trying to catch the big one. His greatest love was spending time with his family, especially his kids and grandkids on the Story Lee Farm where he treasured gardening, his chickens, feeding the wild birds and spending time at his pond.

David was a Master Mason of Courtland Lodge No. 85. He was a former board member and volunteer with the Franklin-Southampton County Fair for over 30 plus years. He was the official WANGER at the VA Association of Fairs Conference every year.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 48 years, Peggy Story Jones (my Peggy Beth); his two daughters, Samantha (Daryl) and Ashley (James); grandchildren, J.R. and Bobby Butler and Jocelyn, Genevieve and Austin Busch which were his world; sister-in-love, LeeAnn Story Williams (Wayne); sister, Wendy (Richard); brothers, Clyde “Buddy” (Teresa) and Hunter (Randall); along with many nieces and nephews; “Shari D” and Volpe who were like a sister and brother to him and always by his side, his faithful companions, Boss and River.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Feb. 8, at 11 a.m. at Wright Funeral Home in Franklin.
