Franklin High School’s varsity football team was represented among the 2024 All-Tri-Rivers District honors by receiving 13 selections, including one on the first team, four on the second team and eight chosen for honorable mention.
Broncos senior Travis Mabry Jr. was named to the all-district first team as a running back.
He also made the second team as both a defensive back and punt returner.
Two other Franklin players making the second team included junior center Xavier Banks and sophomore linebacker Lamaj Boone.
Broncos receiving honorable mention included senior quarterback Altavis Turner, junior guard Xavier Vincent, junior tight end DeMoreon Smith, senior defensive tackle Ahmad McNeil, junior linebacker Jaden Reid, senior wide receiver Kemonte Flythe, sophomore wide receiver Ayden Branch and senior linebacker Anthony Brown.
“Overall I was happy for the kids who were selected,” Franklin Head Coach Lamont Hill said. “I know with a little more dedication we could’ve had more kids represented. Now going into the offseason, we will see how bad they really want it. Your teams with a good number of kids represented normally fare well during the season.”
The Broncos did not achieve the success they hoped for this year, finishing 3-8 overall. While this led to fewer Franklin players represented on the all-district first and second teams, the talent on the team was still recognized overall, with 13 honors, and leading the way in that regard was Mabry.
Hill, highlighting why Mabry made the first team, said, “Mabry’s numbers spoke for themselves. Not just that but his versatility is something that was recognized by the coaches in our district. For a good portion of the season, Travis’ numbers were among the top 10 in the state, and I believe he finished out (the season) in the top 20.”
As a running back this year, Mabry carried the ball 174 times for 1,314 yards and 13 touchdowns. He added another 334 yards and a touchdown as a receiver, and he also returned a punt for a score as well.
“He worked hard and was very deserving of his first-team selection,” Hill said.
