A Franklin man is dead after police say the 2015 Ford Escape he was driving collided with a log truck on Route 58 in Emporia on Thursday.
Virginia State Police says a log truck driven Clifford D. Lynch, 39, of Roanoke Rapids, attempted to turn left onto Route 58 and stopped at the crossover, when Donald W. Rogers, 76, of Franklin, who was traveling eastbound struck the trailer of the log truck. Rogers was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The crash report will be provided to the Commonwealth Attorney and charges are pending his determination,” state police said.
VSP says neither alcohol or speed were contributing factors and both drivers were wearing seat belts.
