The National Weather Service has indicated that a Tornado Watch is in effect for Franklin, Southampton County and Isle of Wight County through 7 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 9. A Flood Watch is also in effect for those localities through Friday evening.
“Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone locations,” the NWS Flood Watch report states. “You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.”
In a Hazardous Weather Outlook, the NWS states, “Strong to severe storms are possible across the region again on Friday. The main threats will be strong straight-line winds as well as isolated tornadoes. Areas of heavy rainfall and localized flooding remain possible across the region.”
