The sights, sounds, and skills of the forestry industry during the 19th century will come alive in downtown Franklin on Saturday, May 4, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., at the Third Annual Lumberjack Festevent.

This event, sponsored by the non-profit organization The Franklin Experience, promises fun and excitement for the entire family. Featured activities include:

  • The Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show
  • The Virginia Lumberjack Championship Competition

Expect to witness old-fashioned entertainment as lumberjacks demonstrate log rolling, underhand chopping, standing block chopping, axe throwing, and more. The Virginia Lumberjack Competition will showcase semi-professional lumberjacks and lumberjills competing in six thrilling disciplines using razor-sharp axes and high-powered chainsaws. Among the competitors are three women who are world record holders in their specific skills.

Local loggers, including individuals from Jerry D. Rose Chip Transit, Rock Springs Forestry, Pinecrest Timber Co., Davis Logging of VA, C. W. Moore & Sons Logging, Adam Moore Logging, and Southeast Fiber Supply, will also compete in the stock saw and axe throwing competitions.

Chainsaw carver Dylan Ezell will mesmerize the audience with his unique creations throughout the day, which will be available for purchase. The Tomahawk Toss will offer axe-throwing activities for both adults and children.

In addition to these events, various activities and demonstrations will showcase the history and impact of the forestry industry, and vendors will offer a wide array of products derived from timber.
