WINDSOR – Sidney Clarence “Cheese Doodle” Newsome, Jr., 76, passed away April 5, 2024 in his home with his family by his side. Born in Franklin, he was the son of the late Sidney C. Newsome, Sr. and Helen Burgess Newsome. He was also predeceased by his wife, Rose Garner Newsome, and two sisters, Romine Rita Newsome and Jean Newsome McWilliams.

Sidney was a graduate of Franklin High School and a retired certified welder for the Maintenance Dept. at International Paper. He was a former president of the Windsor Volunteer Rescue Squad.

He played the guitar for over 60 years and especially enjoyed his Gibson ES335 with his Fender amp. Sidney enjoyed Ham Radio, woodworking, camping, and fishing at Kerr Dam.

Left to cherish his memory are two sons, Sidney Michael “Mike” Newsome and his wife Katrice and Kenneth Callie “Kenny” Newsome and his wife Allison and five grandchildren, Christian Newsome, Landon Newsome, Harper Newsome, Jonathan Newsome and Atticus Newsome.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 14 at Wright Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Poe officiating. Burial will be private. The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Oasis Learning Center, 5 Roberts Ave. Suite B, Windsor, VA 23487 or Isle of Wight Academy, 17111 Courthouse Hwy, Isle of Wight, VA 23397. Donations to the Oasis Learning Center can also be made in person to Bronco Federal Credit Union c/o Oasis Learning Center.
