SEDLEY – Robert “Bobby” Jesse “Papa Ump” Dunlow Jr., 76, passed away March 20, 2024 in East Pavilion. Bobby was a lifelong resident of Southampton County and was a son of the late Robert Jesse Dunlow Sr. and Ellen Mae Turner Jones.

r Service for Quality Assurance for International Paper. Bobby was a member and trustee of Grace Memorial United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Sedley Ruritan Club.

Bobby was an avid outdoorsman that enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a charter member of the Sportsmans Bass Master Club. He was instrumental in the organization of Sedley Youth Baseball and Softball which led to the development of the Sedley Recreation Association. Bobby was a former Commissioner of the Southampton-Franklin Little League Football and former Junior Varsity and Varsity baseball coach at Franklin High School for several years. He coached in the Southampton-Sussex baseball league for many years. His love of the game of baseball and girls softball led him to umpiring for over 40 years. He umpired teeball, coach pitch, boys baseball, girls softball, mens and womens softball and did it with grace, humor and especially with love of the children.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 54 years, June Hundley Dunlow; two sons, Michael Dunlow and Rusty Dunlow and his wife, Heather; one brother, Garry Dunlow and his wife, Paige; two grandchildren, Alyssa Dunlow and Cameron Dunlow; a nephew, Dylan Dunlow and his wife, Tiffany; a niece, Zoe Dunlow; a sister-in-law, Lynn Burgess and her husband, Billy Wayne; a niece Sarah Cherry and her husband, Ryan; a niece, Mary B. Bradshaw and her husband, Rusty; and a great-niece, Evie Cherry.

A celebration of Bobby’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 24 in Wright Funeral Home with Pastor Darwin Edwards and Pastor Michael Baugham officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 – 2 p.m. prior to the service and suggests that memorial donations be made to Grace Memorial United Methodist Church or Sedley Recreation Association.
