People in the Franklin-Southampton area have a new place they can go to for their hair cutting needs with the recent opening of Salon 303 in Franklin, and the business has been well-patronized in its initial months of operation.

Located in the renovated space at 303 N. Main St., the salon officially opened Jan. 2 of this year, and it is owned by Rose Jeske.

“We do color, cut, men’s cutting, beard trim, we do kids’ cuts, kind of the whole realm of hair cutting,” Jeske said. “But we don’t do pedicures or nails.”

Those interested can find a whole array of specific available services listed on the Salon 303 website at

Jeske, 24, is originally from Michigan, where she learned her trade.

“I worked in downtown Detroit for a few years and just kind of fell in love with the downtown area,” she said.

She went to school to learn cosmetology in Farmington Hills, Michigan, graduating from Paul Mitchell The School.

She also was an assistant for Jeph Wright at his award-winning business in Detroit known as Black The Salon.

That was her training ground, and now she has gone out on her own.

Jeske moved to Franklin three years ago and explained what led her to open Salon 303.

“Obviously this is a lot smaller town than Detroit, so I was just maybe looking for something a little like home, and I just was able to find a really good clientele here and make some really good friends, and I guess it was just time,” she said.

She expressed appreciation for the support of Franklin City Manager Amanda C. Jarratt, who she said “has been a client of mine and has been such a great person to me.”

Jeske noted that the mission of Salon 303 is “to have a space where people feel like they can be themselves and feel comfortable, but I also really enjoy teaching people, so I am apprenticing a few girls coming up here pretty soon.”

Making Salon 303 another training ground for future stylists is one of Jeske’s goals.

Right now, the stylists on staff at Salon 303 include Jeske and Lexy Skinner.

“And then I have a few girls who are just kind of shadowing right now,” Jeske said.

Salon 303’s hours are listed on its website as 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Wednesday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday, and the business is closed on Sunday.

Those interested in setting up an appointment can call or text 757-990-0706, email, or send a message through the business’ website, its Facebook page or its Instagram page

In addition to appointments, “we absolutely take walk-ins,” Jeske said. “I usually stay pretty busy, but I always will try to work it in if I can.”

Examples of Salon 303’s work can be seen prominently on its Facebook and Instagram pages.
