Capron Elementary School celebrated Read Across America Week with a variety of activities. The students participated in dress-up days such as wearing an animal shirt or animal print because they were wild about reading, wearing workout clothes because reading jogged their minds, wearing pajamas because they wanted to get cozy with a good book, wearing bright colors or neon because reading made them glow brightly, and wearing spring colors or attire so they could spring into a good book. The students were also entertained by Gertrude McFuzz (Lorraine Greene Whitehead) reading a book to the entire school, along with members of the Sheriff’s Department and other local law enforcement members reading to each individual class. Cupcakes and bags of goldfish were enjoyed by the students as they read their favorite books. It was a fun, memorable time celebrating Read Across America week.
