PORTSMOUTH – Kenneth Wayne Hemmings, 78, passed away on Feb. 17, 2024 in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Born in Buchanan County and raised in Portsmouth, he was a son of the late Estel Norman Hemmings and Ruby Lee Webb Hemmings.

Kenneth was a 1963 graduate of Craddock High School and was a retired U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant. After his retirement from the Air Force, he worked for Sprinkle Masonry Company. He loved fishing.

Kenneth is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lou Ellen Lowe Hemmings; four daughters, Theresa Ann Farley of Virginia Beach, Delana Michele Doyle of Smithfield, Patricia Anne Childress of Marathon, Florida and Texie Leigh Malota of Portsmouth; two brothers, Fred Hemmings of Florida and Eddie Hemmings of Portsmouth; and seven grandchildren.

Burial with full military honors will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 29 in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, Feb. 23 from 6 – 8 p.m. in Wright Funeral Home in Franklin and suggests that memorial donations be made to The Disabled American Veterans at help.dav.org.
