Capron Elementary School announced that the 2023-2024 Teacher of the Year is Erin Harcum. Harcum is the school librarian. According to a Capron Elementary School press release, librarians wear many hats in the elementary school setting. She shares her appreciation of literature by connecting students with high interest and engaging reading resources. Harcum supports students at all levels and with diverse learning needs by collaborating with other educators to design and implement literacy instructional strategies enabling her to have a sustained impact on students’ literacy skills beginning with early learning. She helps to develop students’ reading and comprehension skills through literacy instruction. She provides access to a wide range of grade, level, and age appropriate materials tailored to their interests which leads to the improvement of student performance on statewide assessments. CES officials said, “Capron Elementary School is  proud to have Harcum as the teacher of the year as she empowers learners to become critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers as well as skillful researchers. Her contributions have consistently shown to be of positive value to our students and teachers.”
