FRANKLIN – Gertrude English Jones 98, passed away on Jan. 10, 2024. She is preceded in death by her husband, Freeman Hugh Jones Sr.; parents, Mary Jane Metcalf English and William Henry English, siblings, Milton English, Carl English, Mafra Kate English Moore, Luther Tom English, Lela English Hampton, Nova English Shook, Herman H.

Gertrude is survived by daughter Jane Lilley, husband Ed, grandson Brandon, son Freeman Hugh Jones Jr, grandson Matthew, granddaughter Kayla, daughter Jennifer Jones, special nephew and niece- Jim Luther and wife Becky and Cheryl Adams and husband Jerry many other nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was an registered nurse at Greensville Memorial Hospital, graduated from the hospital School of Nursing in Roanoke Rapids North Carolina, a member of Calvary Baptist Church for 60 years and loved her cat Cassie and taking trips with family particularly visiting Asheville/Mars Hill North Carolina where she grew up and loved trips to Ohio, Pennsylvania, Niagara Falls, Arizona, Nashville, Dollywood and Florida. Gertrude loved music including the Gaither’s, Guy Penrod, Celtic Women, all gospel music, Dolly Parton. She liked flowers particularly red roses, gardening, canning, freezing and pickling and was a good country cook. Had many good friends and acquaintances and June Walker and her mother Mrs. Allen who were her beauticians. Her last months were spent at East Pavilion in Franklin and the family would like to thank all the staff for her care, Joyce Lynch RN, HOVA and Erica CNA HOVA who had recently started caring for her. She made a lasting impression on all who met her. She was well loved by many.

A funeral service will be held at Echols Funeral Home on Wednesday Jan. 17, at 11 a.m. with Ray Traylor officiating. Interment will follow to Emporia Cemetery. Online condolences may be made to www.echolsfuneralhome.com
