FRANKLIN – Priscilla “Betty” Shumake Brady, 82, passed away Dec. 28, 2023 at East Pavilion. Born in Washington, D.C. and a resident of Louisa County for 47 years, she was a daughter of the late Earl Shumake and Rosa Payne Yancey. She was also predeceased by her husband, Stanley Wayne Brady; a daughter, Cathy Brady Hoelzel; a sister, Maxine Sullivan and a granddaughter, Ami Mundth.

Betty was a graduate of Fluvanna High School and worked for many years as a secretary for various government agencies. She enjoyed bingo with friends, crochet, tending her vegetable and flower gardens and spending time with her grandchildren. Betty was a member of Black Creek Baptist Church.

Left to cherish her memory is a son, Edward L. Brady (Tara); a son-in-law, Tim Hoelzel (Becky); six grandchildren, Michael Hoelzel (Bryon), Chris Hoelzel (Angelina), Brandy Nelson (Steve), Emma Brady, Ella Brady and Rosa Brady; and four great-grandchildren, Bostyn Smart, twins Carter and Clay Mundt, and Cole Mundth.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 5, in Wright Funeral Home, with reception to follow at Black Creek Baptist Church. A graveside service will be held at Grace Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery in Lousia, Virginia at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6, with reception to follow.
