Franklin-based New Life Church Global found success Saturday evening, Dec. 23, in its efforts to alleviate people’s stress during the holidays and expand its own ability to minister to the community in the future.

The Jazz & Jokes Holiday Comedy Show, presented by the church at The Two Sisters Event Venue in Franklin on Saturday, was a sold-out event with at least 130 people on hand.

“It was packed,” New Life Church Global Senior Pastor Dr. Eric Majette said. “It was a great, well-attended event.”

He noted that the crowd included people from all seven cities of Hampton Roads, as well as some from North Carolina and even a couple that was visiting from Ohio.

Attendees were treated to comedy from Anguz Black; Venard Hines, also known as “The Laugh Therapist”; and James Lawson.

Saxophonist Talton Manning provided the music at the event.

“The saxophonist kicked it off, then it went into the comedy,” Majette said. “We just had a great time.”

As Majette explained prior to the event, the Jazz & Jokes Holiday Comedy Show was born out of a desire to encourage people during the holidays, which can be a stressful time, and it was also intended to serve as a fundraiser, helping the church expand its ministry potential by developing the first phase of what it is calling The Jeremiah Project.

“That’s our building program,” Majette said. “We’re going to add an additional facility to our current building for expansion.”

The Jeremiah Project has three phases, and Phase 1 will involve adding a commercial kitchen to New Life Church Global’s location at 1101 Johnson Circle in Franklin.
