Suspect dies during police chase in Southampton County

According to a news release, the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office received a call on November 10, 2023, at approximately 07:35 a.m. from the Greensville County Sheriff’s Office that Greensville County deputies and the Virginia State Police were pursuing a vehicle into our County on Southampton Parkway.

“Southampton Deputies were able to join the pursuit to assist the other two agencies.”  Maj. Camden Cobb said.

At approximately 07:50 a.m., the suspect’s vehicle, a red Kia, wrecked on its own, and the driver and only occupant was ejected.  The accident occurred on Ivor Road near Guy Place Road.  The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect’s identity has not been released.

“The Virginia State Police were called to investigate the accident.  There were no other vehicles involved in this incident.” Cobb said.

Further questions about the incident will need to be referred to the Greensville County Sheriff’s Office and the Virginia State Police.
