IWA sports: Butler leads Chargers on trail

CROSS COUNTRY

Isle of Wight Academy junior John Butler led his team in the 2023 Woodberry Forest Cross Country Invitational at Woodberry Forest on Friday, Sept. 22.

Butler finished 77th with a time of 19:14 in the varsity boys race; he was the only IWA boys varsity runner in the top 100. The IWA boys team finished 22nd out of 28 squads.

Eighth-grader Hunter Levelle was the top IWA junior varsity boys runner with a time of 23:32.7; he finished in 93rd place in the JV boys race.

Senior Alex Wilson was the top IWA varsity girls runner, completing the course in 24:49 for 106th place in the varsity girls race.

IWA girls JV runner Ella Huber finished 50th with a time of 27:46.40 in the JV girls race.

GIRL VOLLEYBALL

The IWA girls volleyball team ran its record to 4-7 on the season with a sweep against Hampton Christian Academy on Tuesday, Sept. 19, and defeats to Norfolk Academy on Wednesday, Sept. 20, and traditional rival Nansemond-Suffolk Academy on Thursday, Sept. 21.

The Isle of Wight Academy Athletic Association needs a few extra helping hands in the concession stand for the varsity football game Friday, Sept. 29, versus Catholic High School. Contact board members Jessica Davidson Lowder, Travis Dortch or Griffin Williams.
