FRANKLIN – Harvey A. Hirsch Jr. passed peacefully on Aug. 29, 2023 with his family by his side in Franklin, Virginia at the age of 84. Born in Plainfield, New Jersey to Mr. and Mrs. Harvey A. Hirsch Sr., his years were dedicated to his faith, family and his country. Harvey was immensely proud of his service in the military on the U.S.S. Saratoga where he served for four years. comed two daughters, Nancy and Linda and moved to Danville, Virginia where he owned and operated his own putt-putt golf course and restaurant. After this time, he ventured into the field of insurance where he met many new friends while providing them with the finest care. Harvey dedicated many years to preserving the legacy of the U.S.S. Saratoga serving as a member of the Reunion Committee. He retired to the Outer Banks and spent many beloved years at his home in Manteo watching his grandchildren grow up on the sound. After the passing of his wife Barbara, Harvey moved to Franklin, where he married Fannie Dundlow Hirsch whom he survived after a brief illness.

In 2014 he met and married Dianne Duncan Hirsch who remained his wife and care giver until his passing.

Harvey is survived by his wife, Dianne Duncan Hirsch; children and stepchildren Nancy Hirsch Brown (Phillip), Linda Hirsch Drake (Neil), Cindy D. Kantor (Al), Butch Dundlow (Jaci), Sherry Mayes and Becky Whitehurst. He was a proud “Pop-Pop” to his grandchildren, Emily E. Brown, Grayson D. Hasty (Dillon), William M. Brown Jr., Emma C. Drake, Lewis Mayes, Taylor and Katie Joyner, Haley K. Ruiz (Victor), Graham Kantor, Britany Chavis and Glenda Coffelt. He is also a first-time great-grandfather to Collins J. Hasty. He was also predeceased in death by his parents, Harvey A. Hirsch Sr. and Evelyn Price Hirsch.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 1 in Newsoms United Methodist Church with Pastor Michael Baugham and Pastor Randy Wright officiating. The burial will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2 in the Manteo, North Carolina Town Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Harvest Christian Fellowship Church, 27002 Smiths Ferry Road., Franklin, VA 23851.

The family would like to thank the incredible staff at Southampton Memorial Hospital for their excellent care during his time there.
