To the Editor:

I am told that many of you are complaining on Facebook, blaming the current board of supervisors for allowing a Chinese company to buy over 400 acres on Camp Parkway next to Riverdale School for over 11 million dollars. However, we knew nothing. There is unfortunately no transparency in Southampton. You might also ask FSEDI, county administration, planning director and VDOT when they knew and what they knew.

When the board of supervisors approved the rezoning in 2016 there was the assurance of 2,000 jobs, which I have not heard mentioned lately. However, warehouses generally don’t bring many jobs nor tool taxes and machinery taxes. On that board were Barry Porter, Ronnie West, Bruce Phillips, Carl Faison, Randolph Cooke, Dallas Jones and Dr. Alan Edwards, who was the only one who voted against the rezoning. Sol Rawls and Glenn Updike. among many others. unsuccessfully worked hard behind the scenes to stop the rezoning.

The current Board of Supervisors was blindsided. If you visit the online streaming of our last meeting, that will be obvious by the discussion.
