FRANKLIN – Doris Norfleet Bailey, 99, passed away July 31, 2023 in East Pavilion. Born May 16, 1924 in Nansemond County, she was a daughter of the late Abram Edward Norfleet and Edla Archer Norfleet. She was also predeceased by her husband, Elle Hugh Bailey; a sister, Marianna N. Whitley and two brothers, Robert A. Norfleet and William F. Norfleet.

Doris was a member of High Street United Methodist Church and the Franklin Senior Citizens Group.

Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Janet O’Neal of Virginia Beach and Terry Cornwell of Franklin; two sons, Hugh Bailey of Richmond and Ronald Bailey and his wife, Janie of Chesapeake; a sister, Margaret N. Saunders of Chester; a brother, Abram E. Norfleet Jr. of Stony Creek; nine grandchildren, Matt Bailey, Shannon Hein (Steve), Nathan Bailey, Abe Bailey,  Leah Keesling (Stuart), Ryan Bailey, Jacob Bailey (Jon),  Dale Cornwell (Amber) and Adam Cornwell (Tonya); three stepgrandchildren, Mitzy Cromwell, Kelly Cromwell, Benjamin O’Neal; eight great-grandchildren, Brianna Bailey, Kingston Hein, Alex Hein, Elliott Keesling, Isaiah Cornwell, Kai Cornwell, Christian Cornwell and Cheyanne Cornwell and a host of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Aug. 6 in Wright Funeral Home with Pastor Wes Rose officiating. Burial will follow in Western Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m, on Saturday in the funeral home and suggests that memorial donations be made to any favorite charity. The family would like to thank the entire staff, past and present, at East Pavilion for their loving care of our mother.
