ZUNI – Douglas “Doug” Lee Gray, 63, aka “Grayboy,” passed away July 22, 2023 at his home. Doug was a native of Southampton County and was a son of the late Eppa James Gray Sr. and Virginia Parker Gray. He was a 1978 graduate of Franklin High School and worked in the maintenance department at International Paper Company for 32 years. He was presently employed as a transportation operator for the Virginia Department of Transportation. He was a long time taxidermist in the area and was a member of Black Creek Hunt Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and going to the Eastern Shore for many years. Doug was a member of Burdette Baptist Church.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 42 years, Gayle Lowe Gray; two daughters, Kimberly G. Bratton (Brian) of Belle Haven and Kelly G. Joyner (Brian) of Sedley; two sisters, Dale G. Spivey (Mike) of Franklin and Lea Ann G. Baker (Neil) of Ivor; one brother, Eppa James “Jimmy” Gray Jr. (Kathy) of Franklin; two nieces, Rebecca Geary and Chelsea Spivey; three nephews, Bobby Lowe, Graysen Baker and Chavis Spivey; his father-in-law, Sedric Lowe and a brother- in- law, Bob Lowe (Trisia).

A graveside funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 25 at Black Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Hoyle Green officiating. Memorial donations may be made to any favorite charity. Wright Funeral Home in Franklin is handling arrangements.
