Rena Yarbrough, who holds the title of Fiscal Assistant II in the Franklin Department of Social Services, was presented with the STAR Performer Award at the June 12 Franklin City Council meeting. She poses in the photo with Franklin Mayor Robert “Bobby” Cutchins after receiving the award. Giving Yarbrough the award and explaining why she earned it was Sarah Rexrode, head of the DSS. Rexrode noted that one of the staff anonymously nominated Yarbrough, and Rexrode read what that staffer wrote. Following are excerpts: “Ms. Yarbrough is a tremendous asset for our agency. Although she is a consummate professional, she is very approachable and down-to-earth… for both the DSS staff and the clients we serve. She is very patient in dealing with clients — even the difficult ones — listening to them and helping resolve whatever issues they may have. I love the fact that Ms. Yarbrough doesn’t just blindly transfer clients to their workers… she takes the time to find out exactly what they need and often works directly with that client to see if she can help them resolve the problem. … Ms. Yarbrough often volunteers for ad hoc assignments, such as serving as the coordinator for our Angel Tree program during the holidays. Ms. Yarbrough always has a very even and kind temperament and is always cheerful, even if she is not feeling well or is extremely busy. … Ms. Yarbrough improves the quality of service we deliver by giving excellent customer service. She is often the first face a client sees when they enter our office.” We commend Yarbrough for her outstanding service to the DSS and the community.
