FRANKLIN – Jean C. “Jeannie” Whitley, 78, passed away peacefully June 12, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was born July 14, 1944 in Surry County. She was predeceased by her parents, Lewis Chapman and Elizabeth Brown Chapman; brothers-in-law, J. C. Arrington and Hal Whitley.

Jeannie was retired from Verizon Telephone Company after 36 years of service. Then she worked part-time with AFLAC Insurance Company for eight years. She enjoyed bowling, traveling (especially cruises) with friends and volunteering at East Pavilion. Jeannie was a member of Franklin Baptist Church and the Faithful Workers Sunday School Class.

Left to cherish her memory is her beloved husband of 58 years, Gerald E. Whitley; sister, Mary Beth Arrington of Windsor; sister-in-law, Linda Whitley; nephews, Jack Arrington (Lisa) and Randy Arrington (Debbie); great niece, Lauren Copeland (Colt); great nephews, Bryce Arrington and Zachary Keeling (Ashley) and nieces, Ashley Whitley and Anne Renee Whitley.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 15 in Wright Funeral Home with Dr. Charles Qualls and the Rev. Steve Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in Windsor Town Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home and suggests memorial donations be made to the Khedive Shrine Center Building Fund, 645 Woodlake Dr., Chesapeake, VA 23320. The family will also receive friends following the burial at 27303 Colosse Road in Carrsville.
