SEVERN, North Carolina – Thomas Benthall “Tommy” Grant, 62, passed away unexpectedly on June 3, 2023, in his home. Born in Ahoskie, he was a son of the late Joseph Ruben Grant and Anne Benthall Grant. He was also predeceased by a brother, Joseph William Grant and his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Griffin.

Tommy attended Frederick Military Academy from eighth to the eleventh grade, was a 1978 graduate of Southampton Academy and was a 1986 graduate of Elon College. He was a branch manager of Link-Belt Mid Atlantic in Chesapeake. He was a motorcycle enthusiast and loved to fish and hunt, loved to cook and take care of his yard and especially loved Severn, North Carolina. Most of all he was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend to many.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 34 years, Kristi Grant; two daughters, Danielle Grant and Julia Grant (Tucker); a granddaughter, Harper Holmstrom; a sister, Betty Jo Bain (Pond); three nieces, Tiffany Pecht (Laine), Jessica Hoffman (Andrew) and Alexandra Vick (Hank); two nephews, Travis Griffin and Glenn Griffin; three great-nephews, Hunter Bustin, Grant Hoffman and Tripp Pecht; four great-nieces, Tenley Hoffman, Ava Lee Hoffman, Charley Pecht and Chandler Pecht; his father-in-law, Albert W. Griffin; a brother-in-law, Albert Lee Griffin (Paula); and a longtime caregiver and friend, Sharon Rose.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 8 in Severn Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Corbett, Mr. Pond Bain and Mr. R.P. Watson officiating. Burial will follow in Severn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 – 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Wright Funeral Home, 206 West 4th Avenue in Franklin and suggests that memorial donations be made to any favorite charity.
