WALTERS – To all of my loyal customers and friends, I want to thank you for all of your support over the years, and in all of my different business ventures. But now, on May 30, 2023, the time has come for me, Elizabeth Holland “Liz” Britt, to say my final farewell.

Elizabeth H. Britt

Let me give you a brief history of my life. I was born in Nansemond County, Virginia on Dec. 26, 1942 to the late Virgie Darden Holland and John Waverly Holland. I was raised at Edgewood Home for Girls in Norfolk, Virginia and realize now that I was a lucky and privileged orphan.

I lost four siblings before me, Elizah Holland, Meredith Holland, Patsy Carr and Joyce Babb, leaving two siblings, Louise Dunlow and Jim Carr, to carry on in our absence.

I married Herbert Britt Jr. and have three sons left to cherish my memory, Edward Lee Murden (Mary), Fredrick Lee Murden and Steven Wayne Murden (Laura); six grandchildren, Hannah, Mallory, Logan, Zoe, Zach and Catherine Elizabeth; and three great-grandchildren.

My business ventures over the years include My Teddy Bear Restaurant, which I dearly loved. I also enjoyed my time at Cypress Cove Country Club, meeting and mingling with many wonderful people. Next, I operated Main Street, right on the corner in downtown Franklin. My last adventure before retiring was Simply Divine. We started in a small boutique shop on Armory Drive and eventually moved downtown to the building that housed Parker Drug for so many years. I had such a great time at all of these places. Thank you to all the crew members who helped and worked with me.

I have lived a good, full and interesting life. Now it is time for me to be at rest with my Lord and Savior.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 10 in Wright Funeral Home. There will be no burial, as my urn will go home with Herbert for the rest of his days. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to the Children’s Home Society of Virginia at CHSVA.org.
