Franklin Police Chief Steve Patterson organized a litter pickup on Saturday, April 8, that helped clean up two different target areas within the city.
A news release noted that one of the targeted areas was the Love’s Travel Stop on South Street, where 22 bags of trash were collected along with a pallet and a shopping cart. The other targeted area was the basketball court area on South College Drive, where three bags of litter were collected.
“For a cool, rainy Saturday on a holiday weekend, the turnout of volunteers was awesome,” officials said in the release.
Participating in the pickup were representatives from the city churches, Boy Scouts, Franklin Brothers Keepers, Franklin High School, Franklin Police Department, Franklin City Council and other members of the community.
“Thanks to the many hands involved, we were finished in just a little over an hour,” officials said.
Patterson and Franklin Mayor Robert “Bobby” Cutchins talked to the group of about 30 volunteers to provide instructions on where to spend efforts to clean up the city in preparation for Easter.
“This was a wonderful example of how people can come together for the betterment of our community,” officials said.
