Isle of Wight County Schools is inviting the public to a final walk-through of the circa-1961 Hardy Elementary before it’s demolished in June.

The one-story school has served thousands of students for over 60 years. By September, a new, two-story Hardy being built adjacent to the old school is set to open its doors.

There will be two opportunities – one on April 28 and the other on May 15 – for people to visit and say “goodbye” to the building where they, or their children, once walked the halls.

The April 28 walk-through will be from 1-2 p.m. The May 15 date will be from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Photo identification will be required to gain access to the building.

IWCS will also create a video tour for the benefit of those who can’t attend in person. The video will be shared on the school division’s website and social media.

Demolition of the old Hardy is scheduled to begin June 17. The old school’s gymnasium and an adjacent wing are slated to be saved and repurposed as the division’s new central office. In place of the old school’s cafeteria wing will be a school bus parking lot serving the new school.
