JACKSONVILLE, Florida – Lewis Edward “Flash” Story, age 80, passed away on April 8, 2023 at Baptist Medical Center Beaches. He was born in Newsoms, Virginia on March 5, 1943, to the late James Thomas Story Jr. and Nellie Worrell Story. After high school, Flash attended college and earned his bachelor’s degree which helped further his knowledge for his career.

He enjoyed a long and successful career as a manager in the insurance industry. Flash had many passions in life, but the most important was his precious family. In 2001, he became an original member of the Grateful Undead, a group of cardiac survivors. He joined when he was at Baptist Medical Center Beaches Cardiac Rehabilitation and his fellow members became his second family. Flash was very creative and talented in photography, was designated as the official group photographer for the Grateful Undead group and was known for his imaginative photo-shopped pictures that brought much entertainment to family and friends. Flash also had a love for genealogy and spent hours not only tracing the family history, but he also arranged the family photos. He was truly one of a kind, was so very loved by so many and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jim Story; brother, James Thomas Story III and granddaughter, Kate Story.

Flash is survived by his son, Lewis (Mellanese) Story Jr. of Jacksonville, Florida; daughter, Jennifer (Walter Webb) Story Chadwick of Indianapolis, Indiana; granddaughter, Simone Story; great-granddaughter, Aisling Story; nephew, James Thomas Story IV; niece, Alison L. Story; sister-in-law, Barbara Story and daughter-in-law, Louise Story.

A graveside celebration of Flash’s life will be held on Friday, April 21, at 2 p.m. at Hollywood Cemetery in Newsoms, Virginia.
