Capron Elementary School recently participated in a new program called Book Blast that is aimed at building children’s futures by growing their home libraries with popular, new books.

A school news release stated that the mission and guarantee of the Book Blast program is to inspire more lifelong readers by putting at least one new book in the hands of every student in the school.

The Book Blast fundraiser, spearheaded by librarian Erin Harcum, asked students to submit names of friends and family members who may want to donate, but every student receives books.

Those who submitted at least 10 names received small trinkets, and a daily drawing awarded a wooden “treasure chest” with fake jewels and real cash with crisp new bills and coins.

At the end of the week, one student won an iPad.

Thanks to generous donations, each Capron Cub received at least two new books, and classrooms received a class set of 10.
