BOYKINS – Carolyn Partridge “Jean” Drewry, 91, passed away April 3, 2023 in Southampton Memorial Hospital. Born and raised in the Little Texas area of Southampton County, she was a daughter of the late John Edward Partridge and Carroll Ellis Partrid

ge. She was also predeceased by her husband, Samuel Blount Drewry Sr., her brothers-in-law, Jerry Rice and John Drewry (Fay) and a niece, Susan Rice Coburn.
Jean was a 1949 graduate of Boykins High School and a 1953 graduate of Longwood College, where she was active in Kappa Delta, college choir and cotillion. She was a school teacher, a 50 year member of Tarrara Woman’s Club and a member of Boykins United Methodist Church where she was an organist, pianist and choir director for 65 years.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Dawn Drewry Nickerson (Dr. Michael Nickerson) of Kilmarnock; two sons, Samuel B. “Dee” Drewry Jr. (Margaret Wilson) of Branchville and John Moore Drewry (Kim) of Courtland; a sister, Joan Partridge Rice of Boykins; sister-in-law, Nelle Drewry Drummond (Ray); eight grandchildren, Samuel B. Drewry III (Ashleigh), Dr. Michael D. Nickerson Jr. (Bonnie), Dr. Drewry Nickerson Carter (Russell), John Blake Drewry (Melissa), Victoria Wilson Drewry (Nathan Hanson), Megan Nicole Drewry (Lawson), Benjamin “Beau” Robert Hamilton Nickerson (Sarah) and Haley Rose Moore Drewry (Hill); 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and her devoted companions, Madeline Byrd, Crystal Williams, Barbie Jo Day and Debby Britt.
A memorial service will be held at Boykins United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 7 with the Rev. Keith Jordan and the Rev. Michael Baugham officiating. Flowers are welcome.
