(UPDATE: Franklin Police Chief Steve Patterson reported at 11:14 p.m. that the missing juvenile had been found and that the release sent out at 9:32 p.m. could be disregarded.)
The Franklin Police Department reported that a juvenile escaped police custody on Charles Street on Monday evening, March 27, and, after search efforts by state and local authorities, is considered missing.
An FPD news release sent out at 9:32 p.m. on Monday stated that at around 6:30 p.m., officers responded to the 700 block of Charles Street in Franklin to serve a Juvenile Detention Order on Jymarcus Sneed, who is 16 years of age.
After Sneed was taken into custody, he broke free of the officers and fled on foot, police said. The release added that officers gave chase and were unable to locate him.
The FPD reported that the Virginia State Police responded and conducted a canine track with negative results, and several officers responded to the scene and additional searches were conducted with negative results.
“At this time Jymarcus Sneed cannot be found and is considered missing,” FPD officials said in the release.
Police described Sneed as 5 feet, 7 inches tall, weighing 130 pounds and having brown eyes and black hair.
This investigation is ongoing.
