Markelyn Fenner, of Franklin High School, will take his wrestling skills to Marymount University in Arlington this fall.

A Franklin City Public Schools news release stated that he signed his letter of intent before family, friends and classmates in the Peggy H. Wilkins Gymnasium on Feb. 16.

Fenner said Marymount “has been very welcoming. The environment is nice.”

MU Wrestling Head Coach Roy Hill said the following to Fenner in a message pre-recorded for the occasion: “I’m excited you chose Marymount and welcome you to the Marymount wrestling family. Best of luck on the state championship.”

The Franklin team was headed to that event right after the signing.

Fenner, who said he’ll major in mechanical engineering, told the audience that he “thanks God and family, as well as Head Coach Daniel ‘Bull’ Johnson and assistant coaches Johnnie McKelle and Kyle Cousins.”

Fenner continued, “They turned me into the wrestler I am today.”

FHS Principal Travis Felts said, “We are proud of what Markelyn has accomplished both academically and athletically at Franklin High School. We know he will do well at Marymount and continue to make us proud.”
