FRANKLIN – William Bernard “Billy” Hall, 79, passed away March 21, 2023 in his home with his family by his side. Born in Newport News, he was a son of the late Thomas Howard Hall and Susie Heywood Hall. He was also predeceased by his wife, Nancy Saunders Hall; two sisters, Dorothy Nicholson and Cathy Paul; two brothers, Thomas H. Hall Jr. and Michael Ray Hall; stepson Dean Harrell; and a grandson, Andrew Harrell.

Billy was a graduate of Smithfield High School and a U.S. Marine veteran. He was a retired deputy sheriff for Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Department. Billy attended Sycamore Baptist Church and was an avid golfer at Beechwood Country Club.

Survivors include two stepdaughters Darlene Smithwick and Donna Sykes (Stanley); four grandchildren, Ronnie Smithwick (Emilie), Bridget Parr (Philip), Dustin Sykes and Breanne Harrell; six great-grandchildren, Payton Smithwick, Kaylee Smithwick, Tenley Smithwick, Colton Wade, Waylen Parr and Kinslee Wade; special nieces, Amy Salvitti (Matthew) and Wendy Freeman (Richard); two great-nieces, Alexis Salvitti and Skylar Freeman; a great-nephew, Reed Freeman; and two special friends, Wendy McCourry and Randy Gardner.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 23 in Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Tracey Pugh officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home and suggests that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society or any favorite charity.
