FRANKLIN – Mary Alice Horne Abbitt, 92, widow of William Henry Abbitt, passed away March 12, 2023 in East Pavilion. Born in Norton, Virginia, a former resident of Richmond and a resident of Franklin since 1993, she was a daughter of the late Hoke Irvine Horne and Alice Oalene Beverly Horne. She was also predeceased by a sister, Nancy Oalene Horne; a brother, Hoke Irvine Horne II; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Abbitt Kales; and brother and sister-in-law, John and Mary Frances Abbitt.

Mary Alice was a graduate of the University of Georgia where she received her bachelor’s degree and her MBA. She was a retired actuary from Dominion Power. Mary Alice remained an active member in the Constantia Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church.

Left to cherish her memory are several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15 in Poplar Spring Cemetery with the Rev. Jean Vinson officiating. The family suggests memorial donations be made to Emmanuel Episcopal Church.
