Police investigate possible robbery attempt at ATM in Courtland

Southampton County Sheriff’s Office deputies discovered a possible robbery attempt of an ATM when they responded to an alarm at the Farmers Bank branch in Courtland early Monday morning, March 6.
A sheriff’s office news release stated that it was around 2:09 a.m. on March 6 when deputies responded to an alarm at the Farmers Bank branch located at 28319 Southampton Parkway.
Deputies arrived and found an unoccupied Ford pickup truck with a tow strap backed up to the ATM in front of the building, police said, adding that the front cover of the machine had been forcibly removed.
No one was with the vehicle or in the immediate area, the release stated, and no money or property was stolen during this incident.
Evidence was collected from the scene, and detectives will be investigating the case, police said. Additional information may be released as it becomes available.
