Glenda Acosta Volanos, of Boykins, took part in “Celebrating Female Composers,” a concert featuring Albright College’s choral ensembles Saturday evening, March 4, in the college’s Memorial Chapel.

A college news release noted that the concert was directed by Dr. Derrick Thompson, Albright director of choral activities and assistant professor of music, with Jeffrey Lentz and Karen Eddinger collaborating on piano. 

The concert pays tribute to the contributions of women in music and highlights talented female composers.

“By honoring the work of female composers, we are not only acknowledging their achievements, but we are also inspiring future generations of female musicians to continue their legacy,” Thompson said.

One featured musician was Albright student Olivia Trace, who composed “Blue and Black Wing,” sung during the concert by the Albright Chamber Ensemble.

A graduate of Southampton High School majoring in music industry studies at Albright, Acosta Volanos participated as an alto in Albright Chorale.

Named a top national college by The Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education, Albright College, founded in 1856, is located in Reading, Pennsylvania, and is home to undergraduate students, adult learners and graduate students.
