GAME DAY NO. 5 REPORT

Week 5 of the league showed no lack of intense competition. On Sunday, Feb. 12, all teams came prepared to play for a win, with the playoffs quickly approaching. The Joseph P. King Jr. Middle School gymnasium was packed with supporters of the young basketball players.

The first two games of the day were played by the Rookie Division. The Red Wings picked up their first win of the season in game one by a score of 14-9 against the Dragons. Both teams were firing on all cylinders in the high-scoring matchup. The Red Wings improved their record to 1-4, while the Dragons fell to 1-4.

The Raptors kept their undefeated record alive in game two with a 12-6 win over the Blue Devils, moving them to 5-0 on the season. The Blue Devils dropped to 3-2.

The Junior Division competed in the middle three games.

In game three, team FDPR took the victory over Deb’s Hair Studio by a score of 10-5. FDPR took its record to 2-4, while Deb’s Hair Studio fell to 1-4. However, Deb’s Hair Studio had a chance to even the day’s record in game five during the back half of its doubleheader.

Team Buddy bounced back after its loss the previous week with a win over team Camp25 by a score of 17-7, taking Buddy to a 6-1 record for the season. Team Camp25 is still battling for that elusive first victory as it fell to 0-5.

Deb’s Hair Studio came out hot in game five, its second game of the afternoon. Unfortunately, DHS could not hold off team Coach P LLC and fell by a score of 16-11. Coach P LLC bounced up to 4-3 for the season, and Deb’s Hair Studio fell to 1-5.

The final two games of the day were played by the Senior Division. The Celtics came into their doubleheader with something to prove after a slow start to their season. They would go on to prove their winning ability by taking home two wins — 21-16 over the Warriors in game six and 21-18 over the Lakers in game seven.

The Senior Division remained a close race going into the final week of regular season play as the Celtics bounced up to 3-4, the Warriors were 3-4 and the Lakers sat at 4-2.

The next game day was Sunday, Feb. 19.

GAME DAY NO. 6 REPORT

Week 6 of the league brought its regular season to a close, solidifying the teams with their respective seeds going into the Week 7 playoffs and championship games. The JPK gym was packed once again.

The first games of the day tipped off with the Senior Division. Game one between the Lakers and the Celtics was a pretty cut-and-dried contest, with the Lakers taking home the win by a score of 26-16. The Lakers would run out of gas in game two against the Warriors, however, and take the loss by a score of 18-16.

The Celtics claimed the No. 3 seed with a 3-5 record, setting them up to take on the No. 2-seeded Warriors (4-4) in the playoffs.

The Lakers automatically advanced to the championship game as the No. 1 seed with a 5-3 regular season record.

Games three and four of the day were played by the Rookie Division. In game three, the Raptors put up 18 points in their surge past the Dragons, who scored 11. Game four between the Red Wings and the Blue Devils was a tight contest. The Blue Devils claimed victory by a score of 6-4.
