BASKETBALL

The IWA varsity girls basketball team awaited state tournament selection Sunday, Feb. 19, to see if it made the VISAA Division II State Tournament bracket, but the Lady Chargers ultimately were not selected.

The team ran its record to 13-6 after defeating StoneBridge School in its regular season home finale Friday, Feb. 17, by a score of 22-8.

The Lady Cavaliers had crept to within six points, 13-7, in the fourth quarter, but IWA outscored the visitors 9-1 to close out the win.

IWA was vanquished by Norfolk Academy 39-14 on Thursday, Feb. 16, and turned the tables on Broadwater Academy on Monday, Feb. 13, by a score of 37-27 in a rough-and-tumble contest in Exmore.

In a recent state poll, IWA was ranked No. 13 in Division II, with the top 12 teams qualifying for the state tournament that was set to begin Tuesday, Feb. 28.

The IWA varsity boys team wrapped up a 6-14 campaign with a 72-56 home loss to StoneBridge on Feb. 17.

The Chargers suffered the same fate against Norfolk Academy, 75-18, on Feb. 16 and versus Broadwater, 76-74, on Feb. 13.
