The Franklin Police Department announced Jan. 23 that it was saddened to report that retired K-9 Officer Dash had passed away on Jan. 22.

The news release stated that Dash began his tenure with the FPD in July 2010 and was partnered with Officer Todd Lyons.

During his eight-and-a-half years of service to the city of Franklin, Dash was instrumental in numerous narcotics seizures and community policing engagements.

In October 2018, he retired and went to live with the Lyons family in their home. Since that time, Dash had enjoyed retired life, looking after and keeping his family safe.

Police officials noted that the bond between a handler and their canine is strong and special, and Dash had become a family fixture within the Lyons family.

“We extend our sincere condolences to the Lyons family,” FPD officials said in the release.
