Capron Elementary School received a grant from International Paper entitled “All Students Love to Learn with Flexible Seating.” The grant was written by Title I Reading Specialist, Kathy Thompson and was used to expand flexible seating into two of its classrooms that were still using the traditional style of room arrangement. Flexible seating is the practice of allowing and providing many different seating options for students. Thompson stated, “With International Paper’s generosity, we were able to purchase large beanbag chairs, futons, core engagement wobble stools, portable lap desks and storage benches with cushioned seats.” She also noted, “This grant helped us achieve our goal of providing a flexible seating learning environment that is conducive to student engagement, ownership and achievement as well as students being focused in a classroom community.” Pictured are Chelsea Epps, Breanna Bynum and Brayden Wyatt enjoying using the beanbag chair, futon and portable lap desk in their flexible seating classroom. Thompson went on to express her appreciation of the generous donation, “Our school tremendously appreciates the continued support of International Paper for providing the funds for us to create more flexible seating classroom options at Capron Elementary School.”
