The Isle of Wight Academy basketball program lost a triple-header at Norfolk Collegiate School on Friday night, Feb. 10, with the Charger girls team coming the closest to the host Oaks.

IWA’s varsity girls squad was vanquished 52-21, and the team’s record dropped to 11-5 overall.

The Charger varsity boys squad fell 86-29, putting it at 6-11 overall, and the junior varsity boys team lost 76-32, dropping it to 4-7 overall.

The IWA varsity boys team dropped to 5-8 on the year after a 102-47 drubbing by Hampton Christian Academy on Jan. 26. The Chargers defeated Greenbrier Christian Academy 63-48 on Feb. 2; lost to Atlantic Shores Christian School for the second time this year, 77-49 on Feb. 1; and dropped a home-and-home series with Hampton Christian, 91-60 on Jan. 30 and, as aforementioned, 102-47 on Jan. 26.

The girls team defeated Greenbrier 43-18 on Feb. 2, fell to Shores 45-29 on Feb. 1 and dominated Hampton Christian 51-33 on Jan. 26 and 50-35 on Jan. 30.

The IWA indoor track program’s Pierce Cutler, Hannah Edwards and Jayce Joyner were their teams’ top finishers at a meet Tuesday, Feb. 7, at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton.

Cutler finished second in the 500-meter dash and fourth in the 1,600-meter event. Edwards finished third in the 300-meter dash, and Joyner earned fifth in the 1,000-meter run.

Members of the IWA program set six new personal records at a Jan. 31 meet at Boo Williams.

Glenn Walters broke the school record in the 55-meter event, and Edwards finished first in the girls 500-meter dash varsity event. Edwards finished first in the girls 500 varsity event the previous week at another meet at Boo Williams.

Edwards’ time of 1:21.32 was about 4 seconds faster than that of the second-place runner, who hailed from Trinity Episcopal School.

IWA finished fifth out of eight teams in the junior varsity boys competition; 10th out of 16 squads in varsity girls races; and 13th out of 14 squads among varsity boys teams.

Walters set a new personal record in the 55-meter event. Also setting new personal records were Brendan Mackie, in the 1,000 meters; Robert Sullivan, in the 1,600 meters; and Jack Anderson, in the 1,000.

IWA teams will compete in the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association State Track Meet on Saturday, Feb. 18, at St. Christopher’s School. IWA competitors, in their corresponding events, will include the following:
