Jessie O. Edwards

Mrs. Edwards was born in Branchville to Virginia Gertrude Overby and Collis Cuthbert Overby. She was the vice-president of the 1947 graduating class of Boykins High School and later graduated from State Teachers College at Farmville, Virginia (Longwood University) in 1949. That same year, she married the love of her life and began working for her father’s business, Branchville Machinery Company. She also supported her husband’s farming operation for over 70 years. Mrs. Edwards was very active in the United Methodist Church community, playing piano, teaching Sunday school and supporting the local and regional church for over 70 years.

In addition to her devotion to Christ and the community, she enjoyed corresponding with friends and family. She never let an occasion, celebration or opportunity pass without providing the blessing of her hand-written notes, food and prayer. She and her husband enjoyed weekly dancing dates with friends, gardening and sharing the fruits of their labor and hosting many Sunday lunches for her loving family.

A memorial service will be held at Boykins United Methodist Church on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2023 at 2 p.m. A reception will be held at the church immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the Branchville United Methodist Church or the Branchville Volunteer Fire Department in her honor.

The Edwards family would like to extend its sincere gratitude for all of the loving support received by family, friends and caretakers, including Paulette Barham, Bernice Mayfield, Stephanie Bunn, Shauna Long, Eileen Everett, Dorothy Boone, Amber Hammond, Patricia Peterson and Gentiva Hospice.
