FRANKLIN – James Andrew Eckenrode, 97, passed away peacefully Feb. 1, 2023 at The Village at Woods Edge in Franklin. James was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania on March 1, 1925 to the late Charles Andrew and Barbara Amelia Saltsgiver Eckenrode. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Frances Gehl Ecken

James was a veteran of the Army and served in Europe during World War II. He graduated with honors from Notre Dame in 1949 with a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering. His entire work career was with Dupont. James was a jack of all trades including woodworking, electrical, plumbing and general home additions and repair and loved gardening in his retirement. He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church and is a life member of the Knights of Columbus.

Left to cherish his memory are four daughters, Barbara Schaefer, Frances Eckenrode, Maria Sing (Calvin) and Margaret Sorenson; one son, James P. Eckenrode (Kim); seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A funeral service with military honors will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 15 in St. Jude Catholic Church with Father Emmanuel Mensah officiating. Burial will follow in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6- 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Wright Funeral Home and suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to St. Jude Catholic Church.

The family would like to give special thanks to the caregivers that took such wonderful care of James.
