Blackwater Regional Library will host a winter reading program, “There’s Snow Better Time to Read,” from Feb. 6-March 4. 

A BRL news release stated that the program is designed for children ages 0-6 and their caregiver to snuggle up and enjoy reading fun books. 

Whether books are checked out from the library or chosen from a home collection, the library encourages adults to take up the initiative to begin reading to children at a young age. Reading is Fundamental studies show 34% of children in the U.S. are entering kindergarten lacking the basic skills needed to learn how to read, and 40% of students in Virginia are reading below the basic reading level. “Will you join us at Blackwater Regional Library this February as we kick off ‘There’s Snow Better Time to Read’?” library officials asked in the release.

Children, and their caregiver, will track reading progress through a fun coloring page and later return it to the library to claim their Winter Reading Certificate and award.
