Vareka T. Gary is the new art teacher at Southampton High School, and since she began her journey there, she has contributed her art skills in many projects.

A school news release noted that her students created props for the Drama Club production “A Christmas Carol.” Gary created artwork for the Spirit Week hallways, helping many grades enhance their chance of winning and adding art to the decorations. The fine art students, along with Gary, decorated the Early Childhood Development class and painted windows in the classroom in preparation for the small children attending. This group of fine art students she has mentored and taught were also invited to paint the windows at the Rawls Art Museum.

Gary is now a member of the Blackwater Artist League and has paintings that will be displayed in the upcoming Blackwater Artist League Annual Exhibition at the Rawls Art Museum. Her pieces are called “Lovely Lena” and “Amazing Aretha.”

She is very proud of her students for all their hard work and efforts, officials noted in the release, adding that she is also proud of herself and her recent achievements since becoming a part of the SHS family.

She said, “I am always willing to help my SHS family any way I can.”
