Kindergarteners through fifth graders of S.P. Morton Elementary School sang a variety of Christmas songs for the Franklin City Public Schools’ second annual Winter Holidays Concert and Family Engagement Meeting. The event took place on Wednesday evening, Dec. 14, in the school gymnasium.
An FCPS news release noted that Tyron Riddick, the parent and community engagement specialist who largely organized the musical event, welcomed everyone with enthusiasm.
Dr. Carlton Carter, FCPS interim superintendent, announced the vision to restart the Parent Teacher Association in FCPS schools, and he encouraged the students’ fathers, mothers and guardians to join. Details are forthcoming.

A prelude to the youngsters’ singing was the Glam Squad from Joseph P. King Jr. Middle School. The squad members demonstrated their cheerleading abilities with a seasonal theme.
Kindergarteners started the songfest with “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.” Camille White, the music teacher, played the keyboard and conducted the singers.
First graders next took to the risers and performed “Jingle Bell Rock” and “Silent Night.”
Second graders sang “Christmas Time is Here” from “A Charlie Brown Christmas.”
Third graders told everyone that “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” and then to “Deck the Halls.”
The fourth graders performed “Winter Wonderland.” The fifth graders closed the show with “Twelve Days of Christmas” and everyone’s favorite singalong, “Jingle Bells.”
Before leaving, the families received Lit Packs to provide academic support at their homes.
