GIRLS BASKETBALL

The Isle of Wight Academy varsity girls basketball team finished as the runner-up in the Portsmouth Christian School Holiday Classic, which ran Dec. 16-17.

The Lady Chargers defeated the host school, 38-28, on Dec. 16 before losing to eventual tournament champion Hampton Roads Academy, 42-20, the next day.

IWA juniors Kaitlyn Springle and Reese Upton were named to the all-tournament team.

On Thursday, Jan. 5, the Lady Chargers continued their winning ways against PCS, this time on Benjamin A. Vaughan Court in Jester Gymnasium by a score of 35-27. The win improved the team’s record to 6-2.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Chargers freshman Antonio Harrell had 17 points and teammate Jackson Cofer had 12 as IWA’s varsity boys basketball team avenged a pre-holiday loss to PCS by beating the Patriots, 49-45, at home on Jan. 5.

The win raised IWA’s record to 4-5.

The Chargers were vanquished by the Patriots, 52-50, in the PCS Classic on Dec. 16 but bounced back with a win against Greenbrier Christian Academy, 58-30, on Dec. 17.
