Dr. Charles Qualls, Franklin Baptist Church’s senior pastor, returns to international radio on two upcoming Sundays in January 2023.

An FBC news release noted that on Jan. 8 and 15, Qualls will deliver sermons on the program called Day1, a mainline Protestant broadcast ministry. His Jan. 8 (Epiphany) message will draw on Matthew 3:13-17 and is titled “Water That Renews Us.” His sermon for Jan. 15 will be based on John 1:29-42 and is titled “Two Powerful Stories and A Distraction.” These programs will be Qualls’ sixth and seventh Day1 sermons delivered over the years.

Day1 programs are hosted by Peter Wallace, and last 30 minutes each week. They will include interviews with Qualls both before and after the brief sermons each week. Qualls mentioned that he is almost always asked about life in Franklin and about his church.

“For instance, one time they asked me about how the church had managed through the pandemic,” Qualls said. “They also asked about how my wife and I had fared in the loss of parents within mere weeks of each other, among other things. In the after-sermon interviews, we discussed some of the finer points of the messages themselves.”

Naturally, the Day1 website is a primary way that many listeners enjoy the programming, by audio podcast. These can be accessed anytime the sermons are released during their scheduled week. The website enjoys a monthly average of about 40,000 user hits. Simply go to www.Day1.org for more information. Listeners can also enjoy the full program on radio stations like WEVA 860-AM in Emporia at 5:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings, WPMH 1010-AM/96.9-FM in Chesapeake/Norfolk/Newport News at 6 a.m. on Sundays or on WPMH 100.1-FM Norfolk/Newport News at 6 a.m. on Sundays.

According to its website Day1 is the voice of the historic Protestant churches, presenting outstanding preachers from the mainline denominations, including the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, the Episcopal Church, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), United Church of Christ, United Methodist Church, Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), American Baptist Churches and others.

Day1 began broadcasting in 1945 as “The Protestant Hour” and has been on the air every week since, currently on 200 stations. In addition to the many radio stations across the U.S., Day1 is heard in Canada, the Caribbean, the Philippines, New Zealand, Africa and other parts of the world.

Day1 is a ministry of The Alliance for Christian Media, an ecumenical nonprofit media ministry based in Atlanta, Georgia. The Alliance was created in 2004 after the merger of The Protestant Hour Inc. and the Episcopal Media Center, which was founded in 1945 and originally called The Episcopal Radio and TV Foundation. The Alliance for Christian Media has been instrumental in producing Emmy-winning TV programming such as “The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe” and “Shadowlands.”
